Sorghum United Hosts Global Conference to Tackle Small-Scale Mechanization Challenges

Andrew Bish is the COO of Bish Enterprises and founder of Hemp Harvest Works. After exiting the retail management industry after 14 years, he rejoined the family business in 2012 and transitioned into the agriculture industry. Since 2015, he has been focusing on identifying and resolving the many issues currently facing hemp harvesting and processing. His goal is to provide equipment that helps standardize hemp farming practices, while allowing growers to increase their scale of operation and decrease costs.

Sorghum United, a leading advocate for sorghum and millet farmers, is pleased to announce the International Conversation on Small-Scale Mechanization in Cultivation, Irrigation, and Value-Addition for Sorghum and Millets. This virtual conference, with an emphasis on South Asia, Africa, South America, and the Caribbean, will take place on May 20, 2024, from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM CDT.

The conference aims to address the challenges faced by small-scale farmers in accessing and implementing small-scale mechanization in various regions worldwide. Sorghum United is committed to advancing the conversation and finding solutions to these critical issues.

The event will feature a diverse lineup of speakers, including:

  • Ms. Sharmilla Oswall, CEO of Gudmom, will discuss small-scale mechanization in value-added processing
  • A panel discussion on mechanization processes in Africa, the Caribbean, and South America, featuring Ms. Krystle Phillips (CEO of Your Equipment Suppliers, Trinidad and Tobago), Dr. Amadou Diallo (ISRA/CERAAS, Senegal), Mr. Levi Chikombe (CEO CropSoko, Kenya), and Mr. Marcelo Suza (CEO of Manancial Group and Editor-in-Chief of Revista Agrícola Para, Brazil)
  • Dr. Ankit Chandra and Anthony Delaney, researchers at the Dougherty Water for Food Global Institute, presenting on small-scale mechanization in irrigation
  • Mr. Andrew Bish from Bish Implement will discuss small-scale mechanization in cultivation and harvest
  • Nate Blum, CEO of Sorghum United, addressing ownership and financing models for small-scale mechanization
